Here’s 5 of our favourite rainy day attractions

Here’s 5 of our favourite rainy day attractions in Leeds city centre (just in case you need a little inspiration in your back pocket):

1. Leeds Central Library has a decent book selection for children and young adults. Plus, now it’s home to a gorgeous free play area for little ones.
2. @mathscityleeds is packed full of hands on activities. Always a brilliant couple of hours for primary school aged kids.
3. @leedscitymuseum is a great free rain shelter, with lots of fun crafts, trails and interactive galleries. The current Miffy exhibition bring extra cuteness.
4. Arty kids will love the free activity station and explorer bags in the @henrymooreinstitute - then head next door to @leedsartgallery to find another creative space for kids
5. The new @funstation_uk has just opened in The Light - with a huge choice of arcade games 👾

Of course, we also like a mooch around @leedsmarket (for street food and holiday activities) and @leedscornex (for cute stores) too.

Oh and the Henry Moore Institute actually has free half term drop in workshops on Tuesday 27 May. X

Brooding mood + joyful new sculpture trail 🌿🎨

I’d promised everyone a very slow Saturday. But then when was my word ever to be trusted 🤷🏻‍♀️

And no-one complained. How could you, when confronted by the tactile Wild Uplands sculpture trail, stretching across the moors where the Brontë sisters once roamed.

It’s been created by @rougeit @vanessadasilvasilvasilva @meherunnisa.asad and @moniraism as part of @bradford_2025 , and sits up on the moor in Penistone Hill Country Park just above Haworth. It will be there until 12 October.

There’s a family trail (which you can print off before you go or pick up in town). And the route isn’t too long for little legs (although wear your sensible walking shoes). It took us about an hour, moving at a very sedate pace and taking photos.

While you are there, you can also enjoy @operanorth sound walk Earth & Sky (download via the app before you arrive and bring headphones).

We then popped back into town for a pink lemonade and a stroll down the hill to the park and playground.

So just nice and quiet then 😅

Don’t want to find your account suspended for lack of blossom? Get thee t’Ilkley. Which (dare I say) is just as pretty as Harrogate this time of year. But with the added bonus of a slightly more wild side 🌿

In fact, a short stroll away from the genteel town centre, you soon find yourself in a much more rugged landscape dotted with rocky outcrops and ancient carvings.

Thanks to the brilliant @thereluctantexplorers for sharing all their local knowledge so we were able to explore Ilkley Moor without getting stupidly lost.

We are nothing if not consistent. We have our set

We are nothing if not consistent. We have our set route. We always stop at the same cafe. I have a cup of tea. We finish with a trip to the Little Wild Wood.

Luckily, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park knows how to shake things up.

This time we got towering, hand-thrown ceramics, an undulating weaving, lambs, creative bags filled with hands-on activities, blossom and mythical figures.

All pretty extraordinary, really.

And don’t worry we left it all in one piece 🫣

I booked the cheapest flights I could find, then worried about the actual planning later 🫣

This badly thought out approach to family holidays actually led us to one of the best holidays we’ve ever had last summer.

We ended up staying in the beach town of Calafell (near Barcelona) for the bulk of the time - but as our flights were to lovely Girona, I wanted to spend a little time getting to know this most stylish of Catalan cities.

Boy is Girona beautiful. But we also found some fun family friendly stuff.

I have written a full guide on my blog (link in bio or search for The Little Adventurer) with kid friendly activities, restaurants and hotels.

But as a sneak peak, here are a couple of highlights:

@museucinema - interactive fun in the centre of town
@crepdequegirona - the best takeaway crepes
@casadeculturagi - interesting exhibitions (they currently have a playful sculpture exhibition for children).

Maybe one to save, in case you find yourself in this beautiful part of Spain.

Sunny days are coming … and so it might be time to work on your playground bucket list. Take it from someone whose kids have almost outgrown them 😭

I’ve chosen those with extraordinary play structures or locations (and often a bit of both) across Yorkshire and North East England.

I know I have probably done South and East Yorkshire and much of the North East a bit of a disservice. Sorry!

Do let me know if you think I’ve missed a brilliant playground off the list.

Oh and happy Mother’s Day to all the British mums - I hope if you are playground bound today, you at least get a hot drink and a slice of cake x
